Melissa F. Brown

We often receive inquiries from individuals seeking short and simple answers to questions about how family law affects their own particular domestic situation.

Ethically, under the South Carolina Rules of Professional Conduct, we can only provide legal advice to clients who schedule initial consultations, our retained clients, or parties who seek a second opinion and have the permission of their legal counsel to consult with us.

Since no two family law situations are alike, it is in each person’s best interests to retain an experienced, knowledgeable attorney who is able to provide the party with valuable advice after the attorney is informed about all the case facts.

Most importantly, the potential client should do their homework and make sure the attorney is knowledgeable about family law. Once the potential client identifies the many knowledgeable family law attorneys in our state, the next key factor is to identify the attorney in whom the client feels an innate confidence and trust and one in whom they can work closely with for an extended period of time.
